ALA MAGERT Map Scanning Registry

The goals of the ALA MAGERT Map Scanning Registry are to:

  • Find out what scanning is being planned, in process, or complete for a particular geographic area
  • Head off any duplication of effort
  • Provide a resource to use for finding a particular digital image
  • Provide a resource for reviewing the various technical parameters used in different projects

We are interested in all map scanning projects, whether U.S. or international.

Search the Registry -- Basic or Advanced

You can search the registry using basic search (keyword search) or advanced search. The advanced search provides the ability to search by project or map title, geographic area, publisher, project status and organization.

Search results will display a brief record with Project or Map Title, Geographic Area and Organization. To view the full record, click on the "+" sign in front of the brief record.

  4. Your entry will be automatically added to the Registry.
  5. After reviewing each submission, an e-mail message will be sent to the contact provided in the entry form to confirm its receipt and inclusion in the database.

Update a Project

If information about your project has changed, click on Update Project . It will open an e-mail window to send your updated information to the website administrator. Include the project or map title and the field and information you want updated. You will be sent an e-mail confirmation that the updates have been made.

Links

There are two other registries that include maps that you may want to search:

WAML Scanning Projects Clearinghouse -- includes map scanning projects by WAML (Western Association of Map Libraries) members or non-WAML members within the WAML principal region.

Registry of U.S. Government Publication Digitization Projects -- also includes some map scanning projects.

You may also want to check relevant national libraries that have done map scanning projects.

If you have any questions or comments, contact Chris Kollen
